TAIKATA TWILIGHT SUMMER SPRINT SERIES 2022

ORGANISING AUTHORITY: Taikata Sailing Club Inc.
1. RULES:
1.1 The regatta will be governed by the Racing Rules of Sailing,RRS, the Prescriptions of Yachting New Zealand, the Rules of the Class Associations, this Notice of Race, (except where any of these are altered by the Sailing Instructions) and the Sailing Instructions.
1.2 On water referees may be used .
2. ALTERATIONS TO THE SAILNG RULES:
2.1 RRS 35 will be modified to read "Boats failing to finish within 30 minutes of the first boat will be scored DNF"
2.2 As a general rule, the following time limits shall be applied to the management of each race. The time is measure is applied to the first boat to reach each mark. Failure to sail within these limits will result in a shortened course or race abandonment:
First Mark: 30 minutes
Each subsequent mark: 20 minutes
3. ELIGIBILITY:
3.1 All boats must be registered and show sail numbers unless granted a waiver prior to racing on the day of the race.
4. ENTRIES:
4.1 Entries will be accepted up until 10 minutes prior to the first race start each day by completing the sign on sheet in the club rooms.
4.2 A competitor shall be considered DNF if they have not signed off the entry sheet on completion of sailing each day.
4.3 A daily race fee of $10.00 is to be paid prior race start each day.
5. SCHEDULE OF EVENTS:
5.1 The schedule of events:
Day 1 (20 December 16:30) - Race 1-3
Day 1 (21 December 17:30) - Race 4-6
6. SAILING INSTRUCTIONS:
6.1 The Sailing Instructions are posted on the Taikata web site (www.taikata.co.nz/Club Information).
6.2 A pre-Race briefing will be held for all sailors 20 minutes before the scheduled start of the first race each day.
7. RACING AREA:
7.1 Races will be sailed on the inner Waitamata harbour from the Taikata club rooms at:

Te Atatu Peninsula
Auckland 0610
8. COURSES TO BE SAILED:
8.1 The courses will be displayed on board in the Taikata club rooms and discussed at briefing each race day. The races shall be of short course format.
9. SCORING:
9.1 The Low Points Scoring System RRS Appendix A,2.2 will apply.
9.2 There will be six races of which four shall be completed to constitute a series.
9.3 lf five or more races have been completed each boat shall discard its worst score for one race to get the final series results.
9.4 In the event of a tie Appendix A,2.3 shall apply except that all races shall count.
10. ALTERNATIVE PENALTIES:
10.1 Penalties shall be in accordance with RRS 44.2. (720 Turns penalty).
11. CLASSES:
11.1 Frostbite; All comers
12. LIABILITY:
12.1 Competitors sail entirely at their own risk. Neither the Organising Authority, nor individuals appointed or volunteering accept liability for injury or damages (material or personal) suffered during the regatta or at any time, nor are they responsible for the seaworthiness of any yacht whose entry is accepted or the sufficiency or adequacy of its crew or equipment. Please note, the decision to race is the skipper’s decision.
13. PATROL BOAT:
13.1 There will be at least one patrol boat on the water under the control of the race controller. In adverse circumstances, the first priority is to rescue crews, not salvage boats, although every effort will be made to return yachts to the beach.
13.2 The patrol boat will stay on the course until the last boat has finished or returned from the last race. Sailors who go for a ‘free sail’ after this time do so at their own risk and will no-longer be under the safety watch of the patrol boat.

SAFETY CHECKS:
Please note class rules apply and there will be spot checks on boats, correction weights and buoyancy vests.
